History books worldwide document the intelligence, tenacity, and spirit women have demonstrated over the years in their long uphill battle to achieve landmark accomplishments politically, socially, and economically. Women of 2010 exhibit an ever increasing fiery determination and continue to surpass old boundaries, break traditional molds, and challenge the stigmas associated with femininity. Since the early 1900s, organizations and governments in many countries have been celebrating the momentous achievements of women every March with “International Women’s Day.”
International Women’s Day is about celebrating the accomplishments of women of the past and of the present. It is also a time to come together and raise awareness and support for women in less fortunate circumstances around the world. It is a day to inspire women to continue excelling in all walks of life and to create a global web of support to help them do so.
Orleans community, we want to invite you to celebrate International Women’s Day with the Orleans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre on March 3, 2010, at Place Sarsfield. It is the Resource Centre’s 20th anniversary celebrating International Women’s Day and this year they are hosting the event in partnership with l’Union Culturelle des Franco-ontariennes, the Cooperative Multiservices and the City of Ottawa’s Public Health Department. The 20th anniversary of this event means there are some special surprises in store for all attendees! Doors will open at 5:30pm and dinner will be served at 6pm. Local entertainment will infuse the celebration with energy and fun that you won’t want to miss. Come with your friends and make some new friends! Enjoy the company of women living in your community who come from all backgrounds and you’ll even have a chance to win some great door prizes.
Tickets are only on sale until February 19th ending at 4:30pm. So this is your last chance to purchase tickets and reserve a night of laughter and fun.
